The Tacoma is one of the planet’s most popular light-duty pickup trucks. Known for its power and 4WD, it also features reliability and safety that provides owners with additional peace of mind at work or on the road with family and friends. Today, we compare it to a new competitor in the segment - the 2020 Jeep Gladiator.
The 2020 Toyota Tacoma makes the most of efficiency
The Tacoma includes a 3.5L six-cylinder engine that outputs 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. The automatic is available with a lock-up torque converter to reduce slippage and promote efficiency. The Gladiator includes a six-cylinder that has a 3.6L displacement that produces slightly more horsepower than the Tacoma, but less torque.
The Tacoma is offered in two models, the Access Cab and Double Cab, and a slew of variants and special packages. Both main models achieve better city fuel consumption ratings (13.0/13.8 L/100 km) than the Gladiator (14.3 L/100 km). This reduces the cost of ownership during the life of the vehicle. This adds value to the Tacoma’s much lower entry MSRP ($37,450) compared to the Gladiator ($43,876).
The 2020 Toyota Tacoma makes size matter
One of the most significant qualities of any light-duty pickup is bed size. The Tacoma offers two options compared to only a single box on the Gladiator. The Tacoma’s Access Cab trim features a bed length of 1,872 mm, which reduces to 1,532 on the Gladiator. The Double Cab’s bed length slightly edges out the Gladiator. One of the greatest disadvantages the Gladiator has in bed volume is bed depth. At just 442 mm, it doesn’t quite measure up to the Tacoma’s 485 mm depth on both models.
The volume advantages of the Tacoma also translate to interior passenger comfort. The Tacoma features 44 mm of additional front legroom, a 66 mm increase of front shoulder room, and up to 81 mm of extra rear shoulder room (Double Cab). The Tacoma also packs in extra airbags you won’t find in the Gladiator, including front head, knee, and rear head airbags.
The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is the versatile truck you need, and it is backed by the Toyota warranty. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions about the 2020 Toyota Tacoma.
