The 2026 Toyota RAV4 PHEV is a game-changer for Laval families who want to lower their gas bill without giving up all-wheel drive. This new generation relies on a sixth plug-in hybrid system, designed to offer more all-electric kilometers than before.
Whether for daily commutes on Highway 15 or weekend trips to the Laurentians, the RAV4 PHEV promises a quiet and economical drive. Here is a detailed overview of the range and features offered for each trim.
The new plug-in hybrid system combines a 22.7 kWh lithium-ion traction battery with two electric motors—one at the front and one at the rear. According to Toyota Canada, the estimated all-electric range now varies depending on the chosen trim, a distinction that helps better plan trips.
The SE trim, being the lightest, achieves an estimated electric range of 89 kilometers. The XSE and XSE with Technology Package variants follow with 85 kilometers, while the new GR SPORT edition—slightly heavier due to its sport suspension—offers 79 kilometers. In all cases, combined fuel consumption remains low, ranging from 5.7 L/100 km on the SE trim to 6.4 L/100 km on the GR SPORT edition once the electric charge is depleted.
| Trim | Electric Range | Combined Fuel Economy | Combined Horsepower |
| SE | 89 km | 5.7 L/100 km | 324 hp |
| XSE | 85 km | 5.9 L/100 km | 324 hp |
| XSE with Technology Package | 85 km | 5.9 L/100 km | 324 hp |
| GR SPORT | 79 km | 6.4 L/100 km | 324 hp |
Under the hood, every version receives a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine paired with two electric motors. The front motor produces 199 lb-ft of torque, while the rear motor adds 89 lb-ft, resulting in a total combined system output of 324 horsepower.
Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive comes standard on all trims, an undeniable asset for tackling Quebec winters with confidence. The suspension on the GR SPORT edition has also been tuned by Toyota GAZOO Racing, featuring performance shock absorbers both front and rear.
The XSE with Technology Package trim benefits from a CCS charging port and an 11 kW on-board charger, allowing it to reach an 80% charge in about 35 minutes on a fast charger.
The SE, XSE, and GR SPORT trims are instead equipped with a J1772 port combined with a 7 kW on-board charger, providing a full home charge in about three and a half hours on a Level 2 charger.
With the 11 kW charger, that same home charging time drops to approximately two and a half hours—a practical option for owners who plug in every night.
The SE trim kicks off the plug-in hybrid lineup with the essentials of RAV4 technology, heated seats, and 18-inch black wheels. The XSE variant adds a 12.9-inch JBL multimedia screen, heated and ventilated seats, and a Panoramic View Monitor.
The XSE with Technology Package goes further with DC fast charging, a head-up display, and Advanced Park. Finally, the brand-new GR SPORT edition combines this electrifying powertrain with a GR Functional MATRIX grille, front and rear spoilers, and red-painted brake calipers for a bolder look.
Inside, every trim features a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, making it easy to monitor remaining electric range. A multimedia system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allows you to stay connected on the road or while charging.
Safety isn't left behind either, as Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 keeps watch over the driver regardless of the chosen trim. This suite of driver-assist technologies includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Departure Alert—two handy features on Highway 440 during rush hour.
Cargo room isn't sacrificed for the battery: storage space behind the front seats reaches 1,800 liters with a sunroof, and expands to 951 liters behind the second row on models with a moonroof, or 915 liters with the panoramic roof. Plenty of room to haul hockey gear or luggage for a long weekend without compromise.
Toyota also backs this powertrain with a solid warranty: 8 years or 160,000 kilometers on hybrid-related components, and 10 years or 240,000 kilometers on the hybrid battery itself. Welcome peace of mind for a first electrified purchase.
