The greatest form of respect is imitation. In the automotive industry, when a competitor takes a route that you've already taken, it means they're well aware of what you're doing.
We see it this year with the Elantra hybrid that is offered by Hyundai. When you take on a vehicle like the Toyota Corolla, you have to put all your tools on the table and that's what the Korean manufacturer has done.
However, we don't need to tell you where the experience is when it comes to hybrid products. That's why the Toyota Corolla Hybrid is still a better choice than the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. Here's why.
Price and fuel economy
Let's get two important things out of the way: price and fuel economy. Both are so similar that it would be dishonest to declare one model more efficient than the other. One week, the small difference in price can go either way depending on prevailing interest rates. As for fuel consumption, it's so tight (the Corolla hybrid's rating is 4.4 L/100 km in the city, 4.5 L/100 km on the highway) that it can vary depending on who's driving.
The distinction is felt elsewhere.
Build quality
Even though Hyundai has made huge strides in terms of build quality, we still have to look to Toyota to find a reference in the category. The interior is both well presented and well thought out. The richness of the materials offered and the rigorous assembly process ensure that this model is more solid and less prone to body noise.
Reliability
Once again, we have to acknowledge the progress made by Hyundai over the past 20 years. However, when it comes to reliability, you have to get up early to compete with Toyota. The brand is and remains the benchmark when it comes to durability.
Resale value
Finally, even though we're dealing with two models that will ultimately give their owners satisfaction, in the end, the Corolla is the best deal because its resale value is higher on the market.
In short, there are two creations that offer similar behaviours, but for peace of mind, nothing beats the experience of owning a Toyota vehicle.
