With the arrival of cold weather, it’s time to think about winter tires and make an appointment to have them installed. This is the perfect time to do so, but we also know that you may have questions about which winter tires are suitable for your Toyota vehicle, when you need to install them, or how to know if they need to be replaced. That’s why we’ve developed this quick guide to frequently asked questions about Toyota tires and we hope it will be helpful. And remember that we are always available to help you when it comes to finding the right winter tires for your Toyota vehicle.
When should my Toyota have its winter tires?
In fact, it’s the perfect time to install your winter tires. The outside temperature drops regularly below 7°. This means that if you still drive with summer tires or all-season tires, they will start to harden and thus they will lose their grip while being less effective at braking. You still have some time, but we recommend that you at least make an appointment now. This way, you’ll at least be sure to have your winter tires on your Toyota when the snow starts to fall.
That said, the mandatory date for winter tires in Quebec is December 1.
How can I check if I need new winter tires?
To determine if your winter tires are still in good condition, you must measure the tread depth. This depth must be at least 4.8 mm to ensure your winter tires have enough tread to last through the winter. If the tread depth of your tire is less than 4.8 mm, chances are your tires won’t last until spring.
Do I need winter wheels to go with my winter tires?
We recommend buying winter wheels for your vehicle, as they protect your summer wheels, which can be more expensive to replace or repair. Plus, buying winter wheels for your Toyota means you can theoretically reduce the size of your winter tires by one inch compared to your summer tires. This saves you money on subsequent winter tires. Simply put, you protect the long-term value of your vehicle and you can save on winter tires later.
